On Monday, March 27, Jason Snell testified before the Texas House of Representatives Business and Industry Committee, in opposition to House Bill 1821. This legislation would amend the Texas Property Code to allow landlords to increase rent late fees to 8 percent of rent and 2 percent per day thereafter.
If passed, HB 1821 would place an incentive on landlords to increase rent late fees in Texas, where rent has increased significantly over the last few years. “Texas tenants are some of our hardest working residents,” Snell said. “They are getting nickel-and-dimed, and this increase would hit them in their pockets.”
Mr. Snell is currently working alongside other firms on several class action lawsuits on behalf of Texas tenants who were charged excessive rent late fees by their landlords under current law.
